Badam/Almond Sharbat
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Badam Sharbat is the first sharbat that i ever made in my life. My MIL taught me this when i was India. When i came down here i never thought i will make this ever because i am kind of lazy. But during summer my MIL compelled me to make this because its very good for health and it gives coldness to your boby. And so i did it last summer and enjoyed that drink. Now i am making it again. People who don't like to drink milk, just mix 2 tbs of this sharbat and you will enjoy the milk.
Ingredients :
25 Badam
10 whole black pepper
8 cardamon (elachi)
1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups water
2 tbs poppy seeds
Muslin cloth (thin cloth)
Step 1 : Soak the poppy seeds for about 2 hrs. Later drain out the water from poppy seeds . Grind almonds, poppy seeds, black pepper, cardamon and cumin seeds , add 2 tbs of water also. Make a thin paste out of that .
Step 2 : In a dish add sugar and water , keep it on high flame let it boil till it turns into syrup. Keep stirring it in between.
Step 3 : When it starts boiling add the grounded paste in it.
Step 5 : Take the muslin cloth pour the syrup in it and try to squeeze the syrup from that so that the paste can stay in the cloth as shown below. Continue the same process for the entire syrup.
Step 6 : After doing that it becomes a thick kind of syrup.
